A Country in Crisis: The Aftermath of Myanmar’s 2025 Earthquake
On March 28, 2025, a catastrophic 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar, leaving widespread devastation in its wake. With over 3,600 lives lost, thousands more injured, and millions displaced, this natural disaster has spiraled into one of Southeast Asia’s most urgent humanitarian crises.
Entire communities across Sagaing, Mandalay, and other affected areas have been flattened. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), over 5,000 buildings have collapsed—including homes, schools, temples, and healthcare centers.Myanmar’s situation has worsened dramatically post-disaster, pushing an estimated 20 million people into urgent need of humanitarian support, reports the The Washington Post.
But for many outside the region, this disaster has gone largely unnoticed.
Life After the Quake: Rain, Ruin, and Relocation
The earthquake’s survivors are now facing a new battle—with nature and neglect. As reported by local aid groups like Baan Unrak Foundation, Bangkok Community Help Foundation and The Way Station - Mandalay, thousands of families are living in temporary shelters made of plastic sheets and bamboo poles. These makeshift tents offer little to no protection from the punishing heat and now, the onset of the monsoon season.
"Every time it rains, it becomes a dramatic situation," said Didi Devamala, founder of Baan Unrak Foundation. “Those in temporary shelters are terrified when storms hit. Even I, living in a secure building, was frightened. Imagine those without proper protection.”
Floodwaters are soaking through fragile shelters. Torrential rain has turned roads into rivers. Children, grandparents, and parents huddle together, trying to stay dry, warm, and safe—often unsuccessfully.
In Mandalay, the Khamwekhome Temple is sheltering over 250 people but has just one functioning toilet. Sanitation and hygiene are crumbling, and the risk of disease outbreaks is dangerously high.

Grassroots Heroes: Who Is Helping on the Ground?
While major international aid is trickling in, it’s the local organizations and small international partners who are leading the charge.
1. Baan Unrak Foundation
Having already provided emergency relief to 950 families in Thanlatmaw and Khamwekhome, Baan Unrak is now focusing on long-term solutions. Their mission includes:
- Constructing weather-resistant shelters
- Building toilets and sanitary facilities
- Laying the groundwork for a community well
Thanks to support from sponsors and AMURT UK, they’ve initiated a pilot construction project. A key team member, Chirasmita, even left school in Yangon to travel to Mandalay and begin procurement on May 1.
One of the families they’ve already helped includes U Soe Paing, a 56-year-old motorcycle driver from Thanlatmaw (East), whose home was rebuilt for him and his family of eight—including his elderly father and three young daughters.
2. Bangkok Community Help Foundation (BCHF)
BCHF recently reached the epicenter in Yae Khar Inn Village, where homes lie in rubble. With help from Greater Good Charities and SMTF-M, they distributed 550 survival bags containing rice, oil, fresh vegetables, and daily necessities.
Their approach is direct, fast, and focused—getting aid where it’s needed most.
3. The Way Station – Mandalay
The Way Station has stepped in to provide clean drinking water, an increasingly critical need. Their temporary water supply station is a lifeline for displaced families as they endure the effects of heat, poor sanitation, and the monsoon rains.

The Bigger Picture: Aid, Obstacles, and Urgency
While local NGOs are working around the clock, the scale of need far surpasses their current capacity. Major entities like the United Nations have launched a $275 million emergency appeal, and countries like China have pledged up to $137 million in aid.
But accessing certain regions remains a challenge due to ongoing conflict zones, restricted roads, and damaged infrastructure. Relief is coming—but not fast enough for the people who sleep under open skies each night.
Our on-ground efforts are reaching into the hearts of where the earthquake struck, and with your support, this can continue to bring relief to the unreachable.
Why You Should Care
You may be sitting in your home or office, scrolling past another disaster story. But behind every number is a human being just like you. A mother trying to feed her children. A grandfather watching his house crumble. A teenager who no longer knows where “home” is.
As someone who works hard every day—who understands the value of community, stability, and safety—you are uniquely positioned to extend your support.
And the truth is: you can make an impact with very little.
For example:
- $25 can contribute to building a new toilet
- $50 can help provide drinking water to a group of displaced families
- $100 can go toward building a shelter that stands through the monsoon
Here’s How You Can Help Right Now
If this story moves you, don’t let it stop at sympathy. Let it turn into action.
When you donate through the Freedom World App’s shop, not only are you helping someone survive the monsoon or rebuild a home—you’re also receiving something unique in return: a Freedom NFT.
This isn’t just another digital collectible. Think of it as a badge of honor, a symbol of your impact, and a reminder that you stood up when it mattered most. Each NFT is tied to a real story—a family you helped shelter, a toilet you helped build, a community you helped strengthen.
You can trust where your support goes. With Freedom World Impact, every donation is transparently recorded and directly received by the on-ground support facilitators. We work on the principles of Transparency and Accountability.
Whether you give $25, $50, or $100, your contribution unlocks both real-world relief and a digital keepsake that you can proudly own and showcase. It’s a small way to carry a piece of the mission with you—and to let others know that giving can be beautiful, memorable, and deeply human.
To get yours, tap the button below, make your donation, and you’ll receive your NFT.
Another way to extend support is by joining the communities of Baan Unrak, Bangkok Community Help Foundation, and Freedom World Impact on the Freedom World App. By joining as a member, you can stay updated on their latest efforts and see exactly how donations are being used to help on the ground.

Final Word: Compassion Has No Borders
In times of crisis, we often ask, “What can I do?” The better question is: “What will I do?”
The Myanmar earthquake has displaced millions and pushed thousands of families to the brink of survival. Your donation, your awareness, your voice—they matter.
Because when disaster strikes, humanity is not measured by proximity. It’s measured by empathy in action.
